RC Airplane Stunts: A Lesson for Beginners
To truly capture the essence of RC flight,
you would want to learn how to perform effective
stunts and tricks with your RC plane. If you
are fairly new to this hobby, there are many
simple RC airplane stunts that will make your
flight so much more exciting!
The First Step
Before
attempting any RC airplane stunt, you must find a safe location to practice,
a field or park where you will not risk injuring anyone. A deserted area
with no trees is ideal as it will allow you to maneuver your plane high
up in their air without fear of obstruction. When the plane is elevated,
remember to fly it into the wind in order to better manage tricks and
stunts.
The Inside Loop
One of the most common RC airplane stunts, the inside loop, is
generally performed right after take off. To execute this stunt, position
the plane as level as possible in the air, while maintaining proper air
speed. Now, apply up on the elevator stick so that the front of the plane
flies up into a vertical stance and ends up rolling over on its back.
Then release the throttle while still holding down on the elevator stick.
When the plane is level again, add throttle to finish the inside loop.
The Roll
Begin by positioning your RC airplane level at about half throttle,
and apply the aileron stick to the left or the right while using a bit
of up on the elevator stick, as needed. The plane will soon start to roll
into an inverted position. Now apply some down elevator to complete the
stunt. When the plane comes out of the roll and is horizontal again, release
the elevator and the aileron sticks back to neutral.
The Stall Turn
The stall turn, often referred to as the ‘Hammerhead’,
is a fairly simple RC airplane stunt that is a lot of fun to pull off.
Again, begin by managing the plane into a steady and level path. Apply
up on the elevator stick and throttle until the plane reaches a vertical
stance; adjust the throttle and elevator as necessary so that the plane
remains in the vertical position. As the plane stalls in the air, apply
full rudder and throttle to the left or the right so that the plane spins
around sharply. After the stunt is completed, return the rudder back to
its original position and let the plane descend a bit on its own velocity.
Finally, come out of the dive using up elevator and some throttle to level
out the plane.
